The 16 Hour Ensemble

Friday I went for sort of a borrowed-from-the-boys look. I kept it cute and a little feminine by adding a gold necklace and tights. I also thought the hot pink lips would be a nice contrast to the rest of the look. This is an example of a great outfit for when you don’t know where your day will take you. On Friday this ensemble got me through work, an H&M shopping event, dinner with friends, and even out. I’d say the secret is a combination of casual elements, in this case a chambray shirt and flat boots, and a few dressier elements- a blazer and dress shorts.

Feels Like Fall!

This time of year it is easy to default to jeans and a t-shirt everyday. Transitioning looks from Summer to Fall is difficult, but worth the extra effort. It gives you an opportunity to combine articles of clothing that may not normally work together. Sandals and jackets, shorts and sweaters, booties and sun dresses, the list goes on, but the bottom line is these can all be worn together during that magical time from about September 15th through, depending on mother nature, most of October. Today I put my new favorite layering piece, a maxi sweater vest, with a maxi dress and platforms. For the chilly walk to work in the morning I added a light jacket.

Personal Style: Pattern Mixing Pt. 1

One of my spring style goals is to mix more patterns. I love the whimsy and individuality it adds to an ensemble. The problem is, it takes gusto and a little bit of practice to incorporate pattern mixing into your personal style. I often forget about the option or feel intimidated by it, but enough of that! Starting today I will mix patterns to give my spring wardrobe a fresh spin. This watercolor printed Yumi Kim top paired over a simple striped Old Navy tee is a good place to start. I imagine as the season unfolds, so will the boldness of my patterns.

This is one trend I know Muzzie would have approved of 100%
