Worth Repeating: Stendhal

A little reminder that simple style is not to be taken for granted (apparently, even in the 1800s). I, for one, look up to those who can maintain perfectly simple style. It takes a trained eye and a refined sense to be able to tell the difference between simple and plain.

Jackie O. is classic in a turtle neck and a trench.

Who is your favorite icon of simple style? I’m going to try to my hand at perfecting a simple look this week. I will be sure to share!

Personal Style: Pattern Mixing Pt. 1

One of my spring style goals is to mix more patterns. I love the whimsy and individuality it adds to an ensemble. The problem is, it takes gusto and a little bit of practice to incorporate pattern mixing into your personal style. I often forget about the option or feel intimidated by it, but enough of that! Starting today I will mix patterns to give my spring wardrobe a fresh spin. This watercolor printed Yumi Kim top paired over a simple striped Old Navy tee is a good place to start. I imagine as the season unfolds, so will the boldness of my patterns.

This is one trend I know Muzzie would have approved of 100%

Worth Repeating: Henry Ward Beecher

I’m usually good about recognizing life’s little pleasures, but lately I have been caught up with life’s big questions. I need to regain some perspective. I’m going to start taking mental notes of the little things that bring me great happiness on a day-to-day basis. Today it is my perfectly messy bun, that took no effort. That never happens.

Inspired By: Steven Alan Fall ’11

This look from Steven Alan’s Fall ‘11 RTW show is amazing. It is time for overalls to make a small comeback, in a boho-chic way. They are around for spring, but so far I haven’t seen anything that compares to the fit and styling of this Steven Alan pair. There are elements of the 70s and the 90s present, yet it manages to look fresh.

Here is to hoping overalls never re-manifest in fashion as baggy, one strap unlatched, and everywhere you look…

Object of Inspiration: Roses

This flower arrangement became more beautiful and interesting after sitting for a couple of days. The large roses bloomed in full, which I find is rare, and the mini roses began to dry out a little. The vibrance of the large roses mixed with the vintage feel of the small roses looks fresh, similar to the way a new pair of shoes can breath life into a thrift store dress.
